How Mafia Wars Works: Getting Started
Mafia Wars is completely new to you? Here’s an absolute beginners Mafia Wars guide.
Set Up the Mafia Wars Application
You can add the application by clicking the following links:
- MySpace
- Yahoo
- Tagged (link is to main Tagged site… once you’re in perform a search for Mafia Wars)
- iPhone – in iTunes go to App Store>Games>Mafia Wars (currently App is v1.4 and is 6.8Mb in size)
When you first add the application, you are presented with a screen showing you your friends who are playing already (and their current scores). Don’t hesitate in adding them to your mafia – in fact in Facebook Mafia Wars at least, this happens automatically. The expression “safety in numbers” very much applies here.
You’re now faced with your first choice… you must choose your Mafia Wars name and character type:
- Mogul (earns money faster)
- Fearless (recovers health faster)
- Maniac (recovers energy faster)
Each character type has it’s own strengths and weaknesses which I’ll try to cover elsewhere but a wee tip here, if I may…
You need energy to progress more rapidly. Money can be earned and used to top up health, but energy is time served, so the maniac character type gives you an edge.
Basically, the aim of the game is to make as much money as possible (at the expense of others). You do this by doing jobs (muggings, corner store hold ups, collect debts, rob pimps – to begin with… jobs get more interesting and more lucrative as your Mafia Wars character progresses). The money you acquire lets you buy new equipment to do more advanced and lucrative jobs. You can also fight with rival mafia families… but choose your battles wisely (look for lower ranking and lower number of mafia members when fighting). The game is played on an interface within your social networking page. The window looks rather complicated and difficult to understand at the beginning. Everyone feels that way about Maia Wars at the start, so don’t panic. You’ll find your way around the game window in no time.

So you can equip yourself with the necessary hardware to complete jobs to earn cash and experience points. The more jobs you master in Mafia Wars, the more income you generate and the more opportunities that will come your way. Not to mention all the loot you will acquire. At the end of the day, it’s money that makes the world go round and the Mafia Wars World is no exception. Over time, you will increase the size of your Mafia family, your income will increase, you’ll be winning more fights and robbing your rivals nekkid. Very satisfying.
