I’m intrigued… so what is Mafia Wars?
Zynga’s Mafia Wars is a multiplayer mafia game that can be played on social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo, Tagged and iPhone (as a free downloadable iPhone app). It probably best categorized as a multiplayer game played in your browser within for example your Facebook and MySpace pages. Once you get started you’ll find that Mafia Wars is incredibly addictive - you must fight, steal, kill and even schmooze (on Facebook and MySpace – powerful friends go a long way towards helping your Mafia Wars cause – as you’ll see, virtual gifts (loot, weapons etc.) are an integral part of the schmoozing process in MW) your way to the top of the New York crime families, Cuban crime families and the Moscow criminal underworld. When you first start Mafia Wars you’re confronted with a rather complicated looking home page where you can see your status (stamina, energy and health levels, the amount of money you’re carrying around (get that money banked or you’ll lose it when (not if) you’re attacked.

To get ahead in Mafia Wars, you have to earn a living and to do that you need to do jobs. Some jobs pay more than others but the higher you go in the rankings (Street thug to Boss in New York; El Sodado to El Cacique in Cuba) the more the jobs are worth.

If you want to survive in Mafia Wars, you’re going to have to fight. Choose your battles wisely, ensure you have adequate backup from your mafia and are adequately tooled up.

So you’ve been making a little bit of money from your “honest” jobs (debt collecting, attacking pimps, heists)… now it’s time to start earning some real Mafia Wars cash by investing in properties. First, you need land, then you can build “legitimate” money making businesses to your plots of land.
